The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), in collaboration with authorities at the Kwahu West Municipal Assembly has held one of its social auditing durbars in the Abetensu community to enlighten residents of the area on the need for citizens to take keen interest in monitoring key developmental projects being implemented by government in their various communities.
The well organized durbar was attended by members of the Abetensu community, religious leaders, students, traditional leaders and some staff of the KWMA.
Welcoming participants to the purpose of gathering, Mr. Owusu Agyei Francis, Municipal Director of the NCCE in the assembly noted that, government intends to encourage the spirit of communal development and responsibility among the citizenry hence, the introduction of the durbar to charge residents of every community to take personal interest and responsibility in making sure that government’s developmental projects and that which has been initiated by community member themselves are all being supervised and monitored by the community itself. This according to the director, will help to involve the citizenry in responsible nation building.
Mr. Owusu Agyei further indicated that a five member social auditing committee will be inaugurated as part of the durbar to effectively take ownership of all government and community initiated projects and ensure value for money.
“After this durbar, a five member social auditing committee will be inaugurated to supervise and monitor the progress of all projects to ensure that the people benefit from the projects as intended. Let me add that the contingency fund at the assembly is one source from where community members can access funds to carry out their developmental projects and therefore I encourage community members to initiate their own projects since they know what they want” he said.

Let me also reiterate the issue of self help as a community because government has a swift way of supporting such initiatives”.
