The Member of Parliament for Akim Oda Constituency Hon Alexander Akwesi Acquah together with the Eastern Regional Minister, Hon Seth Acheampong, and the Municipal Chief Executive of Birim Central Municipality, Hon Victoria Adu Badu have cut sod for the construction of sixty-eight (68) lockable Market shops with ancillary facilities and a lorry terminal at the Akim Oda Old Premier Market.
The Birim Central Municipal Assembly is part of the twenty-five municipalities within the nation and also amongst four municipalities in Eastern Region benefiting from the Ghana Secondary Cities Support Program.
The Secondary Cities Support Program is a five years World Bank funded credit facility which is aimed at improving urban management and basic urban services in participating municipalities.
The program is being implemented under the auspices of the Local Government, Decentrilization and Rural Development Ministry with support from the office of the Head of Local Government Services and the respective Regional Coordinating Councils.
The Eastern Regional Minister, Hon Seth Acheampong, addressing the people urged citizens of Akim Oda to take very good care of the facility after it’ss completion so that in future when talking about municipalities that have taken good care of their facilities, Akim Oda will stand tall as the best.
According to him, people showed less care for government facilities so he pleaded with the traders and all persons going to benefit from the facility to be caretakers of it when it is completed.
He charged the contractor to ensure that work is completed within the time frame giving him so that there will be peace.
“If work will be completed on time it will depend on the consultant so there need to me early monitoring to make sure the contractors do a good job”, he said.
The Member of Parliament for Akim Oda Constituency Hon Alexander Akwesi Acquah expressed joy that his constituency has been numbered with others benefiting from the World Bank funded program.
He said after the construction of the market they will look at sooving the issue with the drainage system in the constituency.
“There’s another project which is been supported by GSCSP which controls flood drains. This will help curtail flood in the area.
He said that government is fulfilling the promised it made to the people of Akim Oda Constituency.
The Municipal Chief Executive of Birim Central Municipal Assembly Hon Victoria Adu Badu said that the project if completed will be very useful to the people of Akim Oda and will help reduce the congestion in the main market and lorry terminal.
She called on the people to give their support to the contractors so that they can complete the work on time.
Obrempong Gyenfi Safro Tsire ii commend the president for the numerous project government happening in Birim Central Municipality.
He also pleaded with the president to consider building another market in the Akimm Oda Quarters Top so that the people there will not travel a longer distance to trade or access a market.
Obrempong Gyenfi Safro Tsire ii called on government to fix the roads in the area.
He expressed his happiness for being part of the program.
