Chief, Assemblyman Construct Placenta Pit For Agona Nkum Health Center

The Mankrado of Agona Nkum, Nana Mprah Afful V in collaboration with the Assembly member of the area, Hon. Ignatius Agyir Boadi have constructed a Placenta Pit for the Agona Nkum Health Center at the cost of GH 700.00 Cedis.

The facility is to help curtail the situation where mothers who deliver at the Center or their relatives are given the Placenta after delivery to bury it at home; a situation, which is said, poses serious health risk to the community.

According to the Chief Nana Mprah Afful, plans are also underway to provide chairs for patients who visits the Center, especially the Out Patients Department.

He has however appealed to indigenes of the town both home and abroad to contribute to the development of the Center for it to attain the status of a Clinic.

The Assembly member, Ignatius Agyir Boadi hinted that though the Center serves over twenty surrounding villages in the area, it lacks basic amenities, which he said could be provided by members of the community.

Conducting members of the Community Health Committee of the Center on an inspection of the project, the Physician Assistant of the Center, Mr. Richard Niezar Ferguson Laing noted that one of the major problems confronting the Center is the provision of water for the day to day running of the activities at the Center, as according to him, they had to rely on harvested rain during rainfall or the nurses always have to trek to fetch water from a well.

He however commended a benevolent individual for taking it up to construct a bore for the Center, which is currently underway.

He later thanked the Chief and the Assembly member for coming to the aid of the Center as the project will go a long way to solve the possible outbreak of a disease in the area due to the self-burial of the Placenta by mothers or their relatives, as stray animals can chance upon it if it is not properly buried.
