President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo has commended the Director General of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), Mr. Paul Asare Ansah and his entire management and staff for a tremendous job done at the Tema port.
President Nana Addo made this commendation at a durbar at Kpone Methodist School park after his visit to the Tema port where he began his three days tour in the greater Accra region on November 8, 2017.
“I have visited the port and the long room, my man I put at the port is really working, everything is working well at the port people said the paperless policy was not going to work but, it is really working well”. The president said.
The president on his tour, visited the ongoing $1.5 billion Tema Port Expansion Project site to observe the progress of the project.
According to the president, the ongoing Tema Port Expansion Project is a major intervention to accelerate the pace of Ghana’s development in the current competitive business world.
The president also visit the custom revenue and data centre (Long Room) of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA).
Addressing staff and management of the MPS after a short presentation of the full component of the $1.5 billion port expansion project, President Akufo-Addo said that the new port will be a state of the art facility that will be capable of receiving the biggest vessels in the world, making it a very important project in the history of the country.
“This is the bigegest investment of almost 70yrs history of the World Bank, this would increase the capacity of the port three times its current capacity”. President Akufo Addo noted.
Construction works on the $1.5billion expansion project commenced on the 1st of October 2016, and it is expected to receive it first biggest vessel after completion in February 2019.
