NCCE, EC Embarks On Educational Campaign To Promote Peaceful Elections

As part of efforts to promote tolerant, free fair credible and peaceful elections come Dec. 7 and beyond, the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) and the Electoral Commission (EC) in the Agona West Municipality have engaged stake holders in a meeting to form what is called an Inter-Party Dialogue Committee (IPDC) that is aimed at mediating among the various political parties to address all electoral concerns and mediate potential electoral conflicts.

The meeting was also aimed at addressing key issues bothering and affecting the country’s democracy such as money in politics, misinformation/disinformation, religious tolerance and electoral violence .

The IPDC is composed of representatives from the security services, the religious organizations, civil society groups, traditional authorities and the media.

The core mandate of the IPDC is to serve as an interactive fora aimed at diffusing any potential tension that could lead to violence before, during and after the upcoming elections, engaging political parties in resolving any inter and intra-party disagreements, and also organizing social events to engage members of the political parties and faith-based groups as a means of promoting religious tolerance.
