Zoomlion Clarifies Payment of YEA Operatives’ Allowances Under Sanitation Module

Zoomlion Ghana Limited has issued a statement to address concerns raised by operatives working under the Youth Employment Agency’s (YEA) Sanitation Module regarding payment delays.

The waste management company clarified its role in managing the operatives and emphasized that while it oversees daily operations, the disbursement of allowances is solely the responsibility of the government through the YEA.

The management explained that their contract with YEA assigns Zoomlion the task of providing logistics such as uniforms and tools, but not the responsibility for determining the timing or amount of the allowances.

Payments, they noted, are released by the government to Zoomlion for onward payment to the workers.

Zoomlion also highlighted its long-standing partnership with YEA, which has lasted nearly two decades.

They emphasized their track record of ensuring timely payments whenever funds are available and expressed their commitment to the well-being of operatives.

This includes providing allowances for extra work hours and occasional humanitarian support in cases of injury or death, even though such compensation is not mandated by their contract.

Addressing the delayed payments, Zoomlion pointed out that these are due to the government’s failure to release funds on time. Despite this, the company has occasionally secured loans to pre-finance the allowances of operatives as a gesture of goodwill.

Zoomlion also underscored that they had facilitated international exposure for YEA workers, sponsoring trips to Belarus and Russia to enhance their waste management expertise.

The company reaffirmed its dedication to supporting operatives within the agreed contractual framework and called for open dialogue rather than public criticism.

Zoomlion reiterated that it continues to make significant strides in waste management across Ghana, investing in recycling plants, wastewater treatment facilities, and digitizing payment systems for improved waste collection services.

Zoomlion urged media houses to be fair in their reporting and reassured stakeholders that the company remains committed to its mission of providing world-class sanitation services in Ghana and beyond.
