Leadership Corruption Is A Distractive Force, UN Peace Ambassador Sam Owusu To ECOWAS Leaders

The United Nations Peace Ambassador to Ghana, Bishop Dr. Sam Owusu, has appealed to ECOWAS Leaders to eschew Leadership Corruption in all sectors of governance.

According to him, Leadership Corruption is a strong distractive force that impedes the progress of ECOWAS Member countries, stressing that leaders must prioritize the fight against corruption.

Ambassador Bishop Dr. Sam Owusu, gave this admonishment in an interview with the media at the launch of the Golden Jubilee of ECOWAS in Accra on Tuesday 22nd April 2025.

He said, “One of the major reasons why ECOWAS Member Countries are not experiencing massive growth is corruption which is deeply rooted in our day to day affairs and it gets sickening as the days go by”.

“I sincerely believe that it is about time our leaders tackled the issue of corruption with seriousness and passion so that they can leave lasting legacies that will be beneficial to their citizens because I am convinced that we can conquer corruption”, the UN Peace Ambassador added.

Touching on the issue of governance, Ambassador Bishop Dr. Sam Owusu who is also the Country Director for International Association of World Peace Advocate (Ghana), further called on West African Leaders to eschew all forms of dictatorial tendencies that could spell doom for their various countries, stressing that peace and orderliness are two essential commodities that must be guarded at all times.

“There’s no way the West African Economy can progress if leaders don’t protect the peace and orderliness in their countries. It is only within the confines of peace, orderliness and decisive leadership that West Africa and by extension, Africa, can experience the massive growth we all yearn for”, the UN Eminent Peace Advocate stated.
