Ghana’s Traders Advocacy Group (TAGG) is making significant strides to position Ghanaian businesses at the forefront of the U.S. market, leveraging New Mexico’s newly launched NMEXUS Center, unveiled at the SelectUSA Investment Summit 2025.
TAGG, led by General Secretary Emmanuel Nana Opoku Acheampong, brought a delegation of Ghanaian exporters across sectors, from agribusiness to logistics, to explore the benefits of NMEXUS, a comprehensive trade gateway designed to simplify foreign market entry.
“This is more than market access, it’s a chance to transform Ghanaian companies into true investors and job creators on American soil,” Acheampong said.
A Strategic Partnership for Growth
TAGG’s collaboration with New Mexico’s economic development initiative and the Chicago-based firm STUP is a carefully calculated move to overcome traditional barriers faced by mid-sized Ghanaian firms aiming to break into the U.S. market.
Through NMEXUS, TAGG members gain one-stop-shop services including incorporation, site selection, staffing, and export logistics—all critical to establishing a successful foothold.
“The U.S. market is complex, costly, and often out of reach for many of our members,” Acheampong noted. “NMEXUS changes the game by providing tailored support that matches our companies’ needs and ambitions.”
Building Durable Bridges
Ghana’s delegation is not just focused on exporting goods but is intent on setting up local manufacturing and operations within the U.S., ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and tapping into new customer bases.
This approach aims to create sustainable economic ties, job opportunities, and long-term growth for both Ghana and the U.S.
Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham of New Mexico affirmed the partnership’s potential: “Ghana has the talent. We have the tools. Together, we can build something durable.”
Harnessing Energy and Innovation
New Mexico’s rich natural resources—ranging from extensive natural gas reserves to renewable energy assets—offer Ghanaian firms a unique advantage as they establish operations in a state focused on future-ready industries.
TAGG sees this as an ideal launchpad for Ghanaian exporters, combining energy security with a business-friendly environment supported by state incentives and streamlined processes.
A Vision for the Future
TAGG envisions NMEXUS as a springboard for a new era of Ghana-U.S. economic relations, where Ghanaian companies are no longer just exporters but integral parts of the American economic fabric.
“Our mission is to elevate Ghanaian businesses beyond borders,” Acheampong said. “With NMEXUS, we are creating pathways not only to sell but to build, innovate, and thrive in one of the world’s largest markets.”
As TAGG and its members embark on this promising journey, the message is clear: Ghana is ready to step onto the global stage with confidence, ambition, and strategic partnerships that pave the way for lasting success.
