The Chief of Armaaman, Nii Armah Kwaofioo II, has performed this year’s yam eating ceremony and installed five new Asafoatsemei to bolster the traditional governance structure of the area.
The ceremony, which took place at the Armaaman palace on 19 July 2026, was attended by sub-chiefs, elders, opinion leaders and residents.
The newly installed Asafoatsemei includes, Asafoatse Kwasum Danso I, Asafoatse Kwaodjan Danso I, Asafoatse Kaidebi Danso I and Nii Kaatse.
In an address, Nii Armah Kwaofioo II said the enstoolment of the five Asafoatsemei was part of efforts to strengthen the role of the youth in traditional administration and to promote peace and development.
He charged the newly installed Asafoatsemei to discharge their duties with loyalty, discipline and dedication, and to work closely with the traditional council to advance the interests of the community.
The Paramount Chief also offered prayers for peace, prosperity and a successful farming season, and appealed to the people of Armaaman to remain united and support development initiatives.
Some dignitaries who spoke at the event commended Nii Armah Kwaofioo for upholding tradition and fostering unity, and pledged their commitment to partner the traditional council in development projects.
The annual yam eating ceremony marks the beginning of the new yam season and serves as an occasion for thanksgiving, reflection and the reaffirmation of communal values.
In a related development Nii Armaah Kwaofioo II used the occasion to warn the public against buying land from ‘fake landlords’, stressing that indenture and land title documents as well as the Courts have affirmed Armaah Kwaofioo family as owners of Ashifla lands.
The development brings to an end the protracted dispute over ownership of the area making the Armaah Kwaofioo family as the rightful custodians and owners of the lands at Ashifla.
Nii Armah Kwaofioo II, advised potential land buyers to be cautious and to transact business only with the duly recognised representatives of the family.
He warned the public against dealing with “fake people” who parade themselves as owners of the Ashifla lands and sell them to unsuspecting buyers.
Nii Armah Kwaofioo said the family would work to ensure orderly development of the area in accordance with law and custom.
“Let no one deceive you. Ashifla lands belong to the Armaa Kawofioo family. Anyone who wants to acquire land should come through the proper channels,” he stated.
The chief further cautioned estate developers, individuals and corporate entities to verify the ownership of lands before making any payments to avoid future litigation and losses.
