From Tragedy To Triumph: IGP Tetteh Yohuno Restores Hope To Police Officer After Devastating Accident

From Pain, Surgery and Financial Struggles to Promotion: Inspector Rebecca Yeboah’s Remarkable Story of Survival and Gratitude

What began as a devastating road accident that left Police Woman Sergeant Rebecca Yeboah battling severe injuries, mounting medical bills and uncertainty has culminated in a remarkable story of resilience, faith, compassion and renewed hope, following her promotion to the rank of Inspector of Police and support extended to her by the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno.

On 23 June 2024, at about 8:30 a.m., No. 7132 PW/Sgt. Rebecca Yeboah was returning home after completing her last-out duty when tragedy struck along the Ejisu–Fumesua section of the Kumasi–Accra Highway.

She was knocked down by a hit-and-run driver, sustaining multiple serious injuries that would change the course of her life.

The accident left her with a deep cut to the head, a fractured left shoulder and collarbone, a severe wound to her left leg, injuries to both knees and complications affecting her eyes. She continues to experience difficulty chewing on the left side of her jaw.

What followed was a prolonged and painful period of medical treatment, surgeries and financial difficulties.

Determined to regain her health and return to normal life, she reportedly exhausted almost all her personal resources. She sold a plot of land in Kumasi, disposed of her car and contracted several loans to finance her treatment.

With another surgery required to address the injury to her collarbone, the financial burden became increasingly overwhelming.

Yet, despite the pain, uncertainty and financial hardship, Rebecca Yeboah refused to surrender.

She held firmly to her faith and continued to believe that her circumstances would change. That breakthrough has now come in a remarkable way.

By what she describes as the special grace of God, PW/Sgt. Rebecca Yeboah has been promoted to the rank of Inspector of Police, giving her a renewed sense of purpose and hope after a difficult chapter in her life.

Her story took another positive turn after she personally appealed to the Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, for assistance with her condition and the financial challenges associated with her continued medical treatment.

The support she received, according to Inspector Yeboah, went beyond what she had anticipated.

For an officer who had endured physical pain, repeated medical procedures and significant financial hardship, the intervention became a powerful source of encouragement and a reminder that her service and wellbeing mattered.

Her appreciation to the IGP was deeply personal.

«“Daddy IGP, I came to you for help, and you have done more than I expected. May God bless you abundantly for your kindness and compassion. May He grant you good health, strength and long life to continue touching lives and serving the Ghana Police Service and our beloved country.”»

Inspector Yeboah’s journey has consequently become more than a story about a police officer recovering from an accident.

It is a story of a woman who confronted adversity, endured immense personal sacrifice and continued to hold on to hope, and whose difficult journey has now been accompanied by a new rank and renewed optimism.

The development also highlights the human side of policing, where the welfare and wellbeing of officers can become particularly important during moments of vulnerability.

For Inspector Rebecca Yeboah, the promotion represents more than a change in rank. It is a symbol of survival, restoration and a new beginning.

After the accident, the surgeries, the financial struggles and the uncertainty, she can now look ahead with renewed confidence as an Inspector of the Ghana Police Service.

Her story is a powerful reminder that even in the darkest moments, hope can survive, and that timely support and compassion can make a profound difference in the life of someone facing adversity.

As Inspector Rebecca Yeboah begins this new chapter, her journey stands as a testament to faith, courage, resilience and gratitude.

From pain to promotion. From despair to hope. From a devastating accident to a new beginning, Inspector Rebecca Yeboah’s story is ultimately a story of survival and triumph.

Congratulations, Inspector Rebecca Yeboah. May your new rank usher in greater restoration, renewed strength, good health and many more years of dedicated service to the Ghana Police Service and Ghana.
