International mission brings together leaders, authors, advocates and communities across cultures — with London announced as the next destination for 2027.
The Beacon of Hope Mission continued its international journey in Auckland, New Zealand, bringing together guests, award recipients, authors, advocates and community leaders from around the world for an evening dedicated to resilience, service, cultural connection and social impact.
Following previous Beacon of Hope Mission events in New York and South Africa, the New Zealand edition marked another significant milestone in its mission to transform lived experience into meaningful action and sprinkle hope across borders.
Founded by award-winning author and Global Ambassador of Hope Kelly Markey, Beacon of Hope Mission recognises individuals whose work and lived experiences demonstrate courage, leadership, resilience and service to humanity.
“This was never simply an awards evening,” said Markey. “It was about creating a space where cultures could meet, stories could be heard and people could recognise that hope is not passive. Hope becomes powerful when it is actioned.”
Culture, Humanity And Hope Take Centre Stage
A powerful Māori welcome, waiata and haka brought the spirit of Aotearoa to the international gathering, offering guests an authentic cultural experience and demonstrating the ability of culture to connect people beyond geographical and social boundaries.
Keynote Speaker Embodies Hope In Action
Travelling from South Africa, keynote speaker Pastor Garon Govender delivered a compelling address on the transformative power of hope, before joining the presentation of awards to international recipients whose service is creating impact across communities.
His message carried particular significance beyond the stage. Shortly after the Auckland event, Pastor Govender was preparing to donate a kidney to a friend, transforming the evening’s message of hope, compassion and service into an extraordinary personal act.
A recipient of the 2025 Beacon of Hope Mission Diamond Award of Excellence, Pastor Govender’s story captured a defining principle of the Mission: hope achieves its greatest impact when it moves beyond words and becomes action.
“Pastor Garon is not merely speaking about hope — he is demonstrating what hope looks like when compassion demands something of us,” said Markey. “His decision to give part of himself so another person has a greater chance at life represents humanity in action.”
Lived Experience Becomes A Voice For Others
The evening placed lived experience at the centre of its message.
A deeply personal moment unfolded when Gagandeep spoke publicly about losing his sister to suicide, creating a poignant connection with Markey, whose own brother’s death by suicide inspired her award-winning book The Life of Jayandra.
Health advocacy also featured prominently, with Mr Fredric Doss of Grace Medicals challenging attendees to think proactively about prevention, awareness and early intervention rather than waiting for illness to dictate action.
Recognising Impact Beyond Titles
Among those recognised was Christiana John, recipient of the Resilient Leader Award, honouring her ability to transform adversity into service and purpose.
Reflecting on the recognition, John said:
“I’ve never felt that resilience means you don’t struggle. I think it means you keep finding a way forward, even when things are difficult.”
Longstanding community service was also celebrated through the Community Impact Award presented to Pastor Vee.
In an exceptional departure from established award categories, the inaugural Beacon of Hope Legacy Award was created to recognise Pastor Nelson Yankasamy, whose decades of service extended beyond the scope of his original nomination.
Responding to the recognition, the family described the honour as deeply humbling, invoking “Elroi — the God who sees.”
Stories Become A Platform For Change
The Auckland event also celebrated the international anthology Manifesto of Hope, bringing together authors whose stories explore the transformation of adversity into wisdom, advocacy and social impact.
New Zealand co-authors Lee Ann and Luanne participated in the official launch and panel discussion and were also recognised through Beacon of Hope Mission Awards.
Their participation reflected one of the Mission’s central principles: lived experience should not end with the individual. It can become a bridge capable of helping another person navigate adversity and discover hope.
Feedback following the event reinforced that message, with international participants describing renewed commitment to service, transformational leadership and meaningful action.
From New York To South Africa – And Next London
Beacon of Hope Mission has grown into an international platform connecting storytelling, advocacy, publishing, recognition and community action — anchored by a singular mission: to sprinkle hope around the world.
Its journey has travelled through New York, South Africa and New Zealand, connecting people from different nations, professions and cultural backgrounds through shared humanity and purpose.
The next international chapter will unfold in London in 2027, creating another global platform for voices of courage, service, resilience and hope.
“We are not simply travelling the world,” Markey said.
“We are travelling with purpose. We are building bridges, connecting humanity and reminding people that one story, one act of courage and one person willing to serve can change the trajectory of another life.”
At the heart of Beacon of Hope Mission is the declaration:
