GOV’T’S NEW $250-$300 COMPULSORY INSPECTION FEE ON USED VEHICLES WILL INCREASE DUTIES – KENNEDY OSEI NYARKO

The Member of Parliament for Akyem Swedru, Hon. Kennedy Osei Nyarko, has questioned the Government’s decision to introduce a compulsory destination inspection fee for all used vehicles imported into the country.

According to him, Ghana has been importing used vehicles since time immemorial without any issues, so there is no justification for the new policy.

“Why is the Government, through the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA), trying to introduce compulsory destination inspection fees for all used cars imported into the country by individuals, car dealers and assemblers?” he quizzed.

He noted that the fees, pegged at $250 and $300, will automatically increase duties on vehicles at the ports since it is a mandatory fee that has to be paid through a third-party company contracted by the GSA.

“I see this new FlexiPass Program as a disingenuous way of introducing additional fees at the ports,” Hon. Nyarko added.
