Otoobuor Djan Kwasi II, the Aburihene and Adontenhene of Akuapem, has promised to support the District Assembly with fuel for the DRIP Trucks so as to speed up work on their roads.
Otoobuor Djan Kwasi II who led his chiefs and people from the Adonten Division, both within Aburi and beyond, in celebrating the rich cultural heritage of the Akuapem people during this years, Aburi Adonten Odwira, was happy that government had made provision for DRIP Machines in their area.
The Aburihene addressed road safety and infrastructure concerns, expressing optimism that the DRIP machines now allocated for road work would prevent accidents and speed up construction projects.
He confirmed a promise to supply fuel for DRIP trucks to accelerate road improvement efforts.
Additionally, he called for a portion of revenue from Aburi Gardens to be allocated locally for community development, noting, “The revenue goes to the government, but part should come back to us so we can use it to improve our roads.”
Otoobuor Djan Kwasi II emphasized the festival theme: preserving the environment as a cornerstone of sustainable growth.
He highlighted the need for “climate justice” and responsible management of natural resources, particularly as illegal mining, or galamsey, threatens Ghana’s water bodies and forests.
He appealed to other chiefs, especially those in mining areas, to stand against illegal mining and prioritize community welfare.
“Should galamsey be done on our lands, especially on hills like ours, the entire community would be at risk of collapse,” he warned. “We must adhere to the laws of the land to protect our environment and secure a future for our children.”
With elections approaching, Otoobuor Djan Kwasi II urged citizens to show decorum, avoid conflict, and exercise their right to vote for preferred candidates peacefully.
The celebration kicked off last Saturday with a fitness walk to Ayi Mensah, a gesture symbolizing community unity and commitment to health. Chiefs, elders, and a wide array of people joined the walk, which marked the start of a weeklong cultural celebration in this picturesque tourism town.
This year’s Odwira festival focuses on environmental stewardship, sustainable development, and the safeguarding of community resources.
As the festival continues, traditional rites and a grand durbar will showcase Akuapem’s vibrant heritage.
Chiefs from the Adonten Division, including Otoobuor Djan Kwasi II, are expected to host a durbar full of pageantry, celebrating culture and raising funds for future community projects.
The Aburi Adonten Odwira festival, traditionally held in October and November commemorates the historic 1826 victory over the Ashanti.
This year’s event has once again united the community in pride, cultural expression, and a shared vision for a sustainable future.
