Accra Schools Disinfected Ahead Of Re-opening

With few days to the re-opening of schools in the country, Zoomlion Ghana Limited (ZGL) has disinfected basic, Junior and senior High Schools (SHSs) in Greater Accra.

Staff of Zoomlion Ghana Limited were spread across schools within Greater Accra where they meticulously disinfected the schools to keep them clean in ensuring that students return to COVID-19 free environment.

Speaking to the media during the exercise at the KANDA Cluster of Schools, Mrs. Dabuoh Veronica Beatrice, Headmistress of KANDA AMA Basic School, she expressed great satisfaction at the exercise being carried out by Zoomlion Ghana Limited.

According to her, the disinfection exercise will not only protect the children from COVID-19 virus but will also scare away rodents and termites that have taken over the school premises while they were away.

She also encouraged parents who are skeptical about bringing their wards to school for dear of the pandemic to do away with all fears since the schools are more than safe for teaching and learning.

“We are well prepared to receive the children back to school so I will urge parents not to entertain any fears. The JHS 3 students were here and we took them through 14 weeks of learning and we have not recorded a single case. The JHS 2 were also here and we ended up with them safely. So there is no cause for fear and panic,” she said.

Also at the NIMA Cluster of Schools, the Metro Education Director for Ayawaso East, Ramatu Gariba commended Zoomlion for taking this step to disinfection and fumigate all schools.

She said, this has not been the first time the waste management company visited their schools with the exercise, pointing out that, “this is about the third time this exercise is being carried in our schools.”

She also averred that, government on the other hand has been very supportive in ensuring that the COVID-19 pandemic is contained by providing enough PPEs for the schools.

According to her, the schools in her directorate have some reserved PPEs to begin the term with whist they await more from government.

The story is not different from the J. E. A Mills Basic School and other schools in Accra.

Noah Ayisi, Headmaster of J. E. A Mills Basic School also expressed gratitude to Zoomlion and the government for including his school in the mass disinfection and fumigation exercise.

He said parents would be invited to the school ahead of re-opening for them to be sensitized on the safety of their wards for them to have confidence in the protocols that are in place.

He also advised his students to take note of all the safety protocols and adhere to them, although he said social distancing might be of a problem considering the huge number of students population in his school.

“However, we will find a way out and stay safe. We will do our best to welcome our students back to the classrooms. We will entreat our students to observe the safety protocols,” he said.

So far, other regions have already benefitted from the disinfection exercise which begun across the country last Saturday.

Zoomlion Ghana Limited had already disinfected 379 educational institutions as of Saturday, January 9, 2021.

The company promised to continue to support the government’s efforts in the country’s battle against the pandemic by keeping the schools safe for both the students and teachers.
