Africa’s underdevelopment situation has been attributed to bad leadership by successive governments on the continent.
The development is also said to have contributed to high level of poverty on the continent because of greediness by these governments.
The minister in charge of the Wesley Methodist Church at Gomoa Ekwamkrom, Very. Rev. Albert Ocran Sackey who made the attribution stated that most African leaders lack foresight and spirit of patriotism, thereby always seeking for their own parochial interest and that of their family and cohorts.
He expressed regrets why, with all the resources both natural and human, the African continent continues to remain the most poorest continent on earth.
He prayed for the day when Africa as a continent and Africans as a people will liberate themselves from the clutches of dictatorship from the Western world and abject poverty to develop themselves.
He later commended former African leaders such as Julius Nyerere of Tanzania, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah of Ghana, Nelson Mandela of South Africa, Jomo Kenyata of Kenya, Haile Selassie of Ethiopia and a host of others who laid their live for the freedom of the continent.
He however pointed out that the continent now lacks such crop of selfless leaders, with the current crop of leaders always aiming at amassing wealth for themselves, to the detriment of the well-being of their people.
He stated that it is now time for African leaders to do away with selfish interest, if the continent is to develop.
