Akyem Oda Zongo community celebrates Fire festival.

The Muslim community in Akyem Oda, Birim Central Municipality, Eastern Region, celebrated the Bugum Chugu (Fire Festival) in grand style.

This festival, the first Dagomba celebration of the year, marks the beginning of the Dagbon year and is observed on the ninth day of the first lunar month.

According to legend, a chief once lost his child, and the festival commemorates the search for the child.

The celebration features the lighting of thatch torches, marching, and chanting of war songs.

The Dagomba Chief of Akyem Oda, in an interview with Oyerepa TV, called for peace in the country, emphasizing that forgiveness and unity are essential for national development.

Okyeame Marfo, the linguist of Akyem Kotoku Kontehene, expressed his delight at seeing the Zongo people celebrate the fire festival, urging everyone to join hands with the Muslims for next year’s celebration.

Chief Dima Naa, the Agro Hene of the Dangomba community in Akyem Oda, appealed for peaceful elections this year.
