ASECOSA Holds First Ever General Elections

The Asuom Senior High School’s Old Students Association (ASECOSA), has held its first ever General Elections to elect and induct new set of its executives into office to steer the affairs of the group for the next 2 years.

Although the ASECOSA is not new in existence, however, founded way back in the year 2011 by the leadership of the 1992 Year Group, the association has in turns, selected its leadership by appointment according to their capabilities, and not by vote. This however, happens to be the first of its kind in the history of the house, where leadership has allowed all its members to exercise their franchise via fairly.

Being first of its kind in its records nonetheless, the Elections, which was steered by Dr. Samuel Osene Bosompem (an old student)  and his appointed Commission, was nothing short of a Free, Fair, and Transparent one to the satisfaction of  entire members. This process, also afforded all its members, both home and abroad the opportunity to participate fully without any one being left out.

Asuom SHS, a second cycle institution which is almost 60years in existence on the academic calendar of Ghana, is situated in Akyem Asuom in the Kwabibirem District in the Eastern Region of Ghana. The school, currently has over a 1,500 student body who are both Day and Bording  students offering all courses as an SHS institution. Products from this institution, are nothing short of the best.

The school can as at now boast of being part of second cycle institutions which has supplied Mother Ghana with good products for national development.  Some of these great people including; the Kontihehe of Akyem Asuom- Nana Bafour Boadi Amponi Obodade III, the chief of Akyem Abaam- Berima Amoaning, the MCE for Kwaebibirem- Hon. Emmanuel Kofi Nti, formal Greater Accra Regional Director of Education- Madam Monica Twumasi Ankra, among many others of high positions, just to mention a few.

The ASECOSA, is made up of over 1000 strong, good willed, and dedicated past students of the Asuom SHS, great men and women who are also patriotic citizens of good standing, serving the nation in diverse ways. These people are all fully committed to working together as a team to elevate the image of their Alma Mater- Mother Great ASEC.

Although not too old as an association, the ASECOSA, since its establishment from the past 14years, has been of tremendous support to its Alma Mater. Some of its inventions in terms of development including; the tiling of the school’s dinning and assembly hall, renovation of some of the school classroom blocks, stocking of the school’s general library, building of the washrooms, supply of furniture, laptops, etc, among some huge financial supports. Same association, was also responsible for the organization of the school’s 50th Anniversary celebration, which indicates that it is a very vibrate organization with solid record.

After its Elections, the association proceeded to the campus of its Alma Mater to hold its Get-Together and Inaugural ceremony of the newly elected executives with the school.

This Get-Together and inaugural ceremony, which was held at the Assembly Hall on Saturday July 19, 2025, was a big ceremony which brought hundreds of the past students across the regions and beyond the borders to socialize and interact with one another after years of departing from school.

Handing over the Mantle of leadership to the new President, the immediate past President of the association, Mr. Richard Gyasi-Dankyira in his speech, expressed his gratitude to his executives and the entire membership of the association for their team spirit and the support they all threw behind him during his tenure of office.

He urged his successor to work harder to continue the good works of his administration to achieve even more successes to lift the name of the school and also the ASECOSA higher. He called on all to lend supportive hands to the new administration to ensure the development of the school.

Also in his Acceptance Speech as the new leader of the group, DCFO Mark Brako-Appiah, the President elect, expressed his profound gratitude to his predecessor for setting a good and solid foundation for he and his new executives to build on. He called for a collaborative strength from all his members to enable his administration continue the good works of the past leadership, and pledged his commitment to his new task as their new President.

Swearing inn the new executives into their respective offices, Madam Monica Twumasi Ankra, charged the new officers to exhibit great sense of responsibility in their day to day activities as leaders, perform their duties with all diligence, and let love and unity be their guide in all they endeavor to do.
