Authorities of Ashaiman Technical Institute have appealed to government to fast-track the completion of the E-Block project to address the school’s growing infrastructure challenges.
The E-Block project, which was initiated under the John Dramani Mahama administration, was abandoned for eight years following the change of government, leaving the school with a severe shortage of classroom space.
During an inspection tour of the school by the Member of Parliament for Ashaiman, the Administrator of Ashaiman Technical Institute, Oreillia Okusu, explained that although the school has the capacity to admit more students, inadequate classroom facilities have limited enrolment.
She further noted that the lack of dormitory facilities has created additional hardship for students, particularly those on industrial attachment and computer placement who travel from distant communities. According to her, many students are forced to rent accommodation in town at high costs, posing a major challenge to their education.
Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament for Ashaiman, Hon. Ernest Norgbey, who inspected the progress of work on the E-Block project, acknowledged the challenges facing the institution.
He disclosed that contractors are currently on site and that the project is about 90 per cent complete.
The MP expressed optimism that the project will be completed by March to help address the infrastructure deficit confronting the school.
Touching on the accommodation challenge, Hon. Norgbey promised to engage the Minister of Education to explore the provision of hostel facilities for the school.
