ASSEMBLY, NGO SUPPORT BRILLIANT GIRLS

The Agona West Municipal Assembly with the support of Guraba Hands Foundation, a US-based Ghanaian charity Non-governmental Organization on Monday presented a set of school items to about twenty brilliant Junior High School girls in the Municipality. The items include sets of exercise books, school uniform, text books, bag, writing materials such as pens and pencils as well as sanitary pads. The girls were selected from various schools in the Municipality. Presenting the items, the Municipal Chief Executive, Mrs. Justina Marigold Assan advised the beneficiaries to make good use of the items so as to motivate others to aspire to their standard. As an educationist by profession, the MCE also warned them against the excessive watching of TV series that does not promote their education. According to her, most of these television series are about love affairs and rather pushes the girls into premature relationship. She also admonished parents not to relent on their oars in taking good care of the education of their children, especially the girl-child, as they are the most vulnerable. She hinted that the objective of the presentation of the items is to promote quality education among girls in the Municipality and promised that any of the selected students who obtains good grades in their final Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) would be sponsored even up to the Tertiary level. The initiative which was mooted by the MCE last year supported over fifteen girls with three of them currently in Senior High School.
