Boxing Coach Ofori Asare Trains Indian Coaches

Black Bombers head coach and AIBA Instructor, Ofori Asare of Ghana has conducted a training course for over 50 boxing coaches in India.

The course which was organised with the collaboration of AIBA and the Indian Sports Authority ended on June 24 saw Asare taking the coaches through the fundamentals to the current rules and regulations.

The experienced trainer who has coached many Ghanaian boxers to the world level and won many medals told yours truly in an interview that though he went to teach, he has learnt a lot from the culture and behavior of Indians and he is very happy with the experience and exposure.

He said the world is big, but small and it is good to share knowledge and ideas.

He noted that Ghana still has many potential world champions, naming the likes of Bastie Samir, Patrick Ayi, Patrick Allotey, Richard Commey, Duke Micah, George Ashie, Isaac Sackey and others in addition to WBO Champion, Isaac Dogboe in the professional ranks.

On the amateur front, he believes if the government pumps in more resources, they can attract more local boxers who can go for international competition and win laurels for Ghana.

The 2017 SWAG award winner for Dedication and Valour called for more collaboration with India in sports and other sectors to develop both nations.
