Chief Denies Death Report In Asafo Accident Incident.

The Chief of Agona Asafo in the Central Region and Nimfahen of the Agona Nyakrom Traditional Area, Nana Nyamfo Asuako XII has denied reports in sections of the media that some victims of the accidents that occurred on Friday 29th August on the Asafo-Swedru highway died as a results of the severity of their injuries.

According to reports, the incident occurred when a speeding truck run into a crowed on float in celebration of this year’s Akwambo festival.

But the Chief, Nana Nyamfo Asauko has denied the claim, stressing that the people were rather supporters of the various football teams in the town who were on exhibition to showcase the trophy to the teams that were to participate in a gala match as part of the Akwambo festival celebration when on their way from Santa Maria were ran into by a speeding truck carrying coconut from the Swedru highway enroute to Accra, injuring seventeen of the supporters.

He disclosed that so far, fourteen out of the seventeen of the injured have been treated and discharged as at the time of filing this report, with the remaining three still on admission, receiving treatment.

He therefore cautioned the media to be circumspect in their reportage, as some turn to spread fear and panic in the society. He later warn drivers to be careful when approaching a town or a junction and reduce their speed to the barest minimal to avoid such occurrences.

He also advised the people, particularly the youth to exercise high level of caution during such moments to avoid themselves involving in such unfortunate incidents. He further hinted that the festival is ongoing despite the unfortunate incident, and not as rumoured that it has been postponed as a result of the incident, but expressed sympathy to all the affected families.
