The chief and elders of Omanjor are urgently calling on the police to intervene in the purported installation of one Solomon as a new chief for the area.
Scheduled for July 21, 2024, the installation is deemed illegal and a violation of Ga customs.
Ironically, Solomon is neither an indigene of the area nor Ga, but rather an Ewe, which the elders claim is causing tension and potential conflict among the people of Omanjor.
According to the elders, the community already has a duly installed chief from the Abola family.
Rumors suggest that both factions are unwilling to compromise, heightening the need for police intervention to prevent escalation.
The elders allege that Solomon has been falsely presenting himself as the chief and attempting to gain support through invitations for his installation.
“We want to tell him that this is not Ewe land. This is Ga land. We have tried everything possible to stop him, but he continues to send out invitations for his installation,” said one of the elders.
“Those planning to install him are not our family members.”
Despite efforts to halt the installation, including sending letters to the police service and obtaining court orders, preparations are reportedly ongoing. The elders assert, “They cannot disrespect us.”
The situation remains tense as the scheduled installation date approaches, with the community hoping for a peaceful resolution.
