DEMYSTIFY CULTURE TO MAKE IT ATTRACTIVE TO THE Youth — Rev Asante

By: Robert Ayanful

The minister in charge of the Apostles’ Continuation Church in Agona Swedru, Rev. Emmanuel Asante has called on traditional authorities and those who hold the fort to traditional cultural practices in the country to demystify the fear associated to some of these practices, to make it attractive to the youth.
His call follows recent comments by some priest and traditional rulers that the youth of today have no regard for traditions and culture.
But Rev. Asante blamed the situation on the fear associated with the practices by the ancestors which he said were later proven by Christianity as a hoax
He said practices such as not to sing whiles bathing, not visiting rivers at certain days by women at their puberty period, not to wash at river banks and cultivate around them to a certain radius, not talking or singing whiles eating, among others which were classified as taboos that will attract the anger of the gods when one does them should have been explained by the ancestors that it would rather have direct health implications on the people, and not to associated them with the fear of angering the gods.
Though not against traditional cultural practices, Rev. Asante noted that until the fear associated with some of these practices are demystified, the youth would continue to disregard such practices.
