A Medim-scale entrepreneur, Mad. Olivia Tamakloe has appealed to the government to support Medium and Small Scale Enterprises by giving them facilities such as interest-free loans to enable them increase production and employment, if the 1 District 1 Factory policy should be a reality.
An alcohol and palm oil producer, Ms. Tamakloe disclosed that she spends not less than GH 800.00 Cedis every week on electricity alone to extract one truck load of the brown sugar cane, the raw material used for the production of the alcohol.
She further disclosed that apart from the cost of electricity, she spends over GH 500.00 on labour to extract twenty drums of the juice, which in turn produces two drums of the pure alcohol.
According to her, most Small and Medium Scale Enterprises are folding up because of lack of funds and high cost of raw materials, and has therefore appealed to the government to support such businesses to augment the 1 District 1 Factory policy.
She also called for research to be done on local alcoholic beverage to re-packaged them well for export, as that will earn the country more money done to import foreign drinks into the country.
