Ex-UTAG President Threatens Effutu Omanhene And Others At UEW Council Meeting

Dr Samuel Ofori Bekoe

President and a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Social Studies, Dr Samuel Ofori Bekoe has threatened to kill the Omanhene of Effutu traditional area and Council Member Neenyi Ghartey VII, the Chairman of the Governing Council Prof Emmanuel Nicholas Abaka, the Acting VC, Rev Fr. Prof. Anthony Afful-Broni, and other Council Members with cutlasses after the Governing Council’s emergency meeting held on Thursday 22nd February, 2018.

The meeting which was held to dicuss the Council’s Fact Finding Commitee’s ReportĀ  travelled deep into the night and also saw Dr Bekoe throwing tantrums, walking out with his colleague Dr Sarpong of the HYPERS Department at the tail end of the meeting and returned to make these threats.

It is unclear what might have triggered Dr Bekoe to behave in a manner uncharacteristic of a Council Member.

He could be heard screaming from the Council Chamber where the meeting was taking place as he issued the threats. A complaint was later lodged at the Winneba Police station by the theĀ  Effutu Paramount Chief Neenyi Ghartey VII, the Council Chairman, the Ag VC and other Council members.

Some police personnel were subsequently detailed to his residence at the night to invite him for questioning and investigation but he failed to accompany them.

The Council Member and Senior Lecturer simply refused to allow the police into his house though he spoke to them through his window.

Interestingly, Dr Bekoe is seeking re-election to serve on the Council on Monday’s elections.

Some people have questioned this unruly behaviour exhibited on Council and what he will be bringing on board again to the Council.

Others are also questioning why he would want to go on the same Council whose members he has disrespected and is threatening to kill, wondering how he will work with the threatened members.
