An audio recording circulating in Ada has sparked public outrage after a man identifying himself as Nene Ocansey is allegedly heard warning an investor against reporting land-related disputes to the police, insisting that he and his associates would still “have their way” regardless of police involvement.
In the recording, the speaker cautions the investor that he could go to the police “at his own risk,” suggesting that law enforcement could only “say their say” while he and his boys would take action independently. The voice in the audio further boasts about how “rough and brutal” his men could be, allegedly expressing confidence that the police would be unable to stop their actions.
The recording surfaced shortly before a group of men reportedly attacked workers at a project site belonging to an investor at Akplabanya in the Ada area, heightening suspicions among residents that the threats captured in the audio were acted upon.
The man at the centre of the allegations presents himself as a chief under the name Nene Ocansey. However, sources within Ada maintain that he is not recognized by the Ada Traditional Council, raising questions about the legitimacy of the authority under which he operates.
Residents allege that the self-styled chief has surrounded himself with a group of young men who are deployed to intimidate and brutalize individual developers working on lands they insist were legally acquired. Victims claim the actions are often carried out under the pretext of enforcing traditional oversight.
Community members further accuse him of attempting to expand his influence by sponsoring the installation of individuals they describe as questionable characters into leadership positions within some divisions of Ada. According to them, this alleged strategy is intended to consolidate control across various jurisdictions.
The developments have generated anxiety among residents and private investors, particularly at a time when Ada continues to attract significant real estate and tourism-related investments.
Several residents who spoke to this reporter described the contents of the audio as a direct affront to state authority and a worrying sign of disregard for law enforcement.
Investors and community leaders are now calling on the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) and relevant security agencies to intervene urgently, investigate the authenticity of the audio recording, and ensure the protection of lives and property.
As of the time of filing this report, attempts to reach the accused individual for his response were unsuccessful. The Ada Traditional Council has yet to issue an official statement on the matter.
