The Royal Asona family of Agona Swedru has officially informed the Nimfahen and Regent of the to town, Nana Kweku Essieni V and the Swedruman Council of Chiefs of the passing and 40-days observation of the late Nana Dr. Bright Oduro Kwateng.
According to the Head of the family Ebusuapanyin Kweku Essuon, about two years ago, Nana Dr. Bright Oduro Kwateng was selected and introduced to the Nimfahen and Regent, Nana Kweku Essieni following the passing of the then Chief of the town, Ogidigram Kobina Botwe II as his successor.
He said plans were underway for his installation as the new chief of the town with the stool name Nana Okokodurfo Kojo Nyarko II as tradition demands, but in the later part of 2024 he fell ill and was flown to the United Kingdom for medical treatment.
According to the Ebusuapanyin, unfortunately, on November 4, 2025 the family received the shocking news of his passing on to glory.
According to the Ebusuapanyin, on Tuesday 14th of April 2026, the family will observe his 40 days at the AWMA “A” school park at Otabilkron in Agona Swedru at 9:00 a.m.
Before his demise, Nana Dr. Bright Oduro Kwateng was appointed Chief Director of the Ministry of Local Government and also the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture.
He was a Lecturor at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) and 2020 aspiring National Chairman of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP).
