Fighting Poverty, Promoting Education Is My Priority – Nana (Dr.) Agyaakwah Akyen II

The newly installed Mankrado of Gomoa Akropong no. 2 in the Gomoa West District in the Central Region, Nana (Dr.) Agyaakwah Akyen II has said fighting poverty and promoting quality and accessible education in his area remains his major priority and has therefore assured that he will do whatever he can to help change the trend.

Speaking in an interview with this reporter after swearing and oath of allegiance with his Queen mother Nana Nyarkoah I to the Chiefs and people of the town, Nana (Dr.) Agyaakwah Akyen also lamented about the high rate of under development in the area, again assuring that he will do everything in his capacity as the Omankrado, in collaboration with his queen mother and in consultation with the Chiefs and people to help Gomoa Akropong achieve the needed development that it deserves.

Known in private life as Dr. David Annan Bonnet who is the Director of Finance at the Ministry of Education, Nana Akyen described the high level of poverty and low standard of education not only in his town, but Gomoa as a whole as unacceptable, and called for something to be done about it to help change the situation.

The Central Region, which was once touted as the hub of education in the country is now among the lowest performing regions academically, with the highest number of out of school children and high rate of teenage pregnancies, the Gomoa District being the worst affected area in the region.
