A Ghanaian-based German philanthropist and Proprietor of Ottilie Ross Basic, Vocational and Technical Institute at Agona Nyakrom in the Central Region, Ms. Ottilie Ross has called for more attention to be given to technical and vocational training, as according to her, that will help provide ready skill to students who are not academically inclined to continue their education to the tertiary level.
Ms. Ottilie Ross who made the appeal during a visit to the school stated that technical and vocational training remains the only antidote that could help address the current unemployment situation in the country, as that will give the youth skilled-training to fit into the job market.
With a current population of about thirty students, Ms. Ottilie Ross hinted that her school has produced students some of whom are already on the job market, with others gaining admission into the country’s various technical universities.
Though flourishing, she hinted that the road has not been easy, as most of the students are from poor homes and therefore cannot even afford the meager fees charges, and as such she therefore have to forfeit the fees of such students.
With a hostel facility for both male and female students, the school offer programmes such as Catering, Electricals, Building and Construction, as well as Fashion and Designing.
Other subjects offered include English Language, Mathematics, Integrated Science, Social Studies, Entrepreneurship and Information Communication Technology {ICT}.
