Foreigners Free To Invest In Mining Sector – Government

John Peter Amewu

Foreigners who intend to invest in the mining sector are being encouraged to do so, especially as government assures to protect their interest by creating an enabling environment for them to do their business.

The government at a press conference on gold mining license revealed that mining license has been categorised into large scale mining, medium scale mining and small scale license.

It has also emerged that the Minerals Commission on behalf of government has stopped giving out the medium scale mining license because they have divided the small scale mining into two, namely the alluvial and the rock mining.

The Rock mining has been reserved for only foreign investors who are expected to make huge investments in the sector. Rock mining requires extra resources which indigenes are unable to raise.

The alluvial mining on the other hand is reserved for the natives of the land where these mining activities take place because of their inability to raise funds to do the rock mining.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, John Peter Amewu has given an indication that government will lift the ban on small scale mining by the end of January, 2018.

Also, the entire leadership of the Small Scale Miners Association are looking forward for government’s announcement.
