Two former champions of the Kingsley Maths and Science Quiz (KMSQ) are making headlines once again — this time on the national stage. Cephas Nana Odei and Harrison Nana Odei, alumni of Nkronso M/A JHS and winners of the third edition of the KMSQ, are now representing Ofori Panin Senior High School (OPASS) in the 2025 edition of the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ).
The duo played a pivotal role in helping OPASS qualify for the next stage of the Eastern Regional qualifiers, cementing their place among the region’s promising academic talents.
Their rise from a community-based competition to the NSMQ is a testament to the importance of early academic support and investment in STEM education.
The Kingsley Maths and Science Quiz, organized annually within the Abuakwa South Municipality, is an initiative designed to identify and nurture junior high school students with a flair for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). It is run under the auspices of the Office of the Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South.
This is not the first time the competition has produced NSMQ-calibre talent. Winners of the very first edition in 2020 also went on to represent their senior high school at the national level — a sign of the competition’s enduring impact on educational development in the municipality.
Commenting on the development, organizers of the Kingsley Quiz described the achievement as a “fruit of consistent academic nurturing and vision.” They noted that the transformation of these students into national contenders validates the core objective of the quiz — to sow seeds of excellence at the basic level and provide platforms for growth and recognition.
“We are proud to see our past winners thriving at the highest level of academic competition in Ghana,” said one of the coordinators. “This only strengthens our resolve to continue investing in the intellectual potential of our youth.”
As the 2025 NSMQ heats up, expectations are high for the OPASS team. Supporters from Abuakwa South and beyond have rallied behind Cephas and Harrison, wishing them continued success as they pursue academic excellence and inspire others along the way.
The Kingsley Maths and Science Quiz continues to grow in reputation, serving as a launchpad for bright minds and demonstrating that with the right support, young talents from local communities can rise to national prominence.
