France’s Head of Regional Economic Consultancy for Nigeria and Ghana, Ms. Emmanuelle Boulestreau, has engaged the Government of Ghana in high-level discussions aimed at deepening economic cooperation and expanding bilateral opportunities for growth.
The meeting, held during a courtesy call on Ghana’s Deputy Minister for Finance, Hon. Thomas Nyarko Ampem, also included the Head of the French Economic Department at the French Embassy in Ghana, Mr. Julien Frioux. Talks centred on strengthening economic ties between the two countries, promoting regional development initiatives, and exploring new areas for mutual investment.
Ms. Boulestreau reaffirmed France’s commitment to supporting Ghana’s economic transformation, particularly in infrastructure and energy development.
She underscored the strong potential for French businesses to increase their footprint in Ghana, citing the country’s expanding economy and improving macroeconomic outlook as key attractions for investors.
Hon. Ampem welcomed the engagement and expressed appreciation for France’s continued partnership, noting that Ghana’s economic recovery remains on course under the ongoing International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme.
He indicated that programme targets are being met, inflation has dropped to 3.8 percent, and major macroeconomic indicators are trending positively.
As part of efforts to consolidate gains made under the IMF programme, the Deputy Minister revealed plans to establish an Independent Fiscal Council after Ghana exits the programme.
The proposed council, composed of locally appointed members, will provide advisory support on financial controls and fiscal decision-making to strengthen domestic oversight and accountability.
The discussions concluded with both sides expressing optimism about enhanced cooperation, with a shared commitment to fostering sustainable economic growth and long-term stability in Ghana.
