The Ghana Bowls Federation, in collaboration with the Ghana Armed Forces Sports Directorate, will host its maiden bowls championship from August 20 to 21, 2025, at the Ghana Armed Forces Sports Complex, Burma Camp, Accra.
The event will open with a Mini Bowls Competition for pupils of Garrison Basic Schools before the main matches begin. Technical oversight will be provided by seasoned international officials, Jeanette Williams and Dirk Malomgre from Bowls South Africa, ensuring the games meet world-class standards.
Special Guest of Honour, the Director General Training, will join dignitaries for the official opening, alongside the Director General of the National Sports Authority, Mr. Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, who is spearheading sports tourism in Ghana in collaboration with the Ghana Tourism Authority.
Ghana Bowls Federation President, Mr. Charles Obeng Amofah, hailed the championship as a milestone in promoting bowls in Ghana, noting future plans to expand it to other security agencies and corporate bodies. He also expressed deep gratitude to the President of World Bowls, Mr. Brett O’Riley, the CEO, Mr. Niel, and the Executive Committee for their support in developing and promoting bowls in West Africa following its official launch in June.
“This partnership with World Bowls is laying a strong foundation for the sport in our region,” Mr. Obeng Amofah said. “With their guidance and the backing of our local partners, bowls in Ghana will thrive and contribute to sports tourism and community development.”
Beyond the sporting action, attendees can look forward to lively sideline attractions, including entertainment and a fashion show, making the inaugural championship a vibrant celebration of sport, culture, and unity.
