Voice of The Nation (VoN) Ghana said the police and government need to act swiftly in order to curb the increasing state of insecurity in the country.
According to VoN, it appears persons charged with responsibility to protect the citizenry have rather developed a lackadaisical attitude and are unconcerned about the plight of the governed.
In a press statement issued regarding the recent incidents of killings in the country, VoN indicated that the inability of the Nana-Addo-Bawumia led government to efficiently deal with this menace will bring forth only one truth; “that is, they associate and are comfortable with the rising insecurity and the activities of the militants which they created while in opposition. Refuting this assertion will require the government to act in an accelerated pace towards combating this issue which continues to terrorize the good people of Ghana.”

VOICE OF THE NATION (VoN) GHANA.
Press Release
Your citizens live in fear and panic, Mr President.
We have observed with much astonishment the increasing state of insecurity in our motherland. Indeed, one would have expected the police and government to act swiftly in order to curb this situation or reduce it to a minimum. However, it appears persons charged with responsibility to protect the citizenry have rather developed a lackadaisical attitude and are unconcerned about the plight of the governed.
At the recent encounter with the press, the president’s speech failed to capture or address the issue of security. But for a question posed by a journalist to the president, the entire encounter would have been silent on this important subject matter. Conveniently, the president failed to show commitment on the fight against vigilantism, which in our humbly view has been a cause for the rising insecurity in our nation. Perhaps, the government appears to be the outmost and principal beneficiary of this act which has been perpetuated not only on ordinary citizens but also on the judicial arm of government. Surprisingly, members of the “invisible forces”: a vigilante group which was formed by the Governing party while in opposition have indicated the inability of the police to arrest them. This is clearly a manifestation of the view held by majority of the populace to the effect that, the actions of these hooligans is state sponsored.
Over the weekend, there have been reported cases of violence which had characterised the elections of the ruling government’s party: NPP. Reportedly, a good number of party supporters have been left injured and are on admission at various health facilities. Again, a police man is reported dead after a police station was invaded at Dome-Kwabenya in the greater Accra region; an act which continues to threaten the security of this nation. If persons who are expected to protect citizens are now being attacked on a daily basis, what then will make the good people of Ghana go about their normal daily activities without fear?
A government that has a minister in charge of national security coupled with an interior ministry and national security coordinator, should not bring untoward insecurity on it’s people. What will be the essence of paying government appointees with the tax payers money if these appointees are unable to safeguard the interest of the citizens by providing adequate, effective and efficient security.
Perhaps if the government has forgotten about the promise it made to the good people of Ghana in their manifesto for which they were voted to steer the affairs of this nation, we humbly remind them of their constitutional duty to ensure that the entire Ghanaian citizenry are safe at all times.
The inability of the Nana-Addo-Bawumia led government to efficiently deal with this menace will bring forth only one truth; that is, they associate and are comfortable with the rising insecurity and the activities of the militants which they created while in opposition. Refuting this assertion will require the government to act in an accelerated pace towards combating this issue which continues to terrorize the good people of Ghana.
The discussions in relation to this matter as indicated conclusively by security experts shows that we as a people should expect more. In this regard, we call on government to categorically state it’s position and the necessary steps it has taken to curb this situation in order to ensure our safety as a people.
Thank you.
