The chiefs and people of Accra will climax this year’s Homowo festival with a special beach soccer tournament at the Laboma Beach at La on Saturday September 30, 2017.
The event which is being organized and hosted by the Teshie Beach Soccer United involves selected teams from La, Nungua, Teshie and Osu with a trophy at stake.
The highlight will be a match between the media and beach soccer officials.
Theo Armah, Team Manager of Teshie United and former assistant coach of the national beach soccer team, the Black Sharks said the tournament is to revitalize friendship among the communities along the coast and offer the youth some activities for entertainment to climax the annual Homowo festival.
He noted that the program is also drawn to sensitise the people to be aware of sanitation and live in healthy conditions, cleaning the beaches to attract tourists and boasting tourism.
He said finding sponsors had not been easy however the programme has to come on to keep beach soccer players active.
According to Nii Armah, all the teams will get participating or appearance fees and the winners as well as exciting players are going to carry home fantastic prizes. He hinted that if all goes well the programme is going to be expanded eight teams to attract players from Ga Mashie, Chorkor, Korle Gonno and Dansoman.
He expressed appreciation to the Ghana Beach Soccer Association (GBSA) and its president Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, the Laboma Beach authorities and the CEO of Zenaps FC, a keen sports enthusiast and philanthropist who is supporting the tournament.
