James Town Chief’s Death Officially Announced

The Heads of the two ruling houses and kingmaker of the Ngleshie Alata Paramount Stool James Town, have officially announced the demise of Oblempong Nii Kojo Ababio V, James Town mantse and Paramount Chief of Ngleshie Alata traditional council.
Announcing his sad demise, Nii Sackey Akumea VI, acting Dzaasetse of the paramount stool and head of Wetse Kojo We of Mantse We indicated that final funeral rites of the late paramount Chief will be announced later.
Meanwhile, he indicated clearly that the official announcement was made jointly by Nii Klemekuku II of kofi Akrashie We of Adrenaline Dawurampong and Nii Sackey Akumia VI, acting Dzaasetse of the paramount stool and head of Wetse Kojo We of Mantse We, Nii Appiah V paramount stool father, and kingmaker of the Decade, Nii Sampan Kojo XI, osiahene and head of the kingmaker of the Decade, Bio Sackey Smash V, kingmaker of the Decade of the Ngleshie Alata paramount stool; all heads and kingmaker of the paramount stool.

HIS EARLY LIFE

Oblempong Nii Kojo Ababio V was born Ezekiel Quamina Allotey Cofie, to the late Mr. William Cofie of the Aflagai Shia, Naa Korle We; and Madam Delphina Owoo from the Krotia Division, Adjumaku royal stool of James Town, Accra.

At age five, he started school at the Accra Royal School and in 1934, entered the secondary section (Form 3) of Achimota College. He was keen with sports and was a member of  the college football and athletic teams. With athletics, he featured in the sprints.

He wrote the London University matriculation examination and subsequently proceeded to Scotland to study dentistry at the Edinburgh Dental School, University of Edinburgh, in 1943.

After 26 years of distinguished and meritorious service with the Ministry of Health, he retired, in 1975. Three years down the line, he was enstooled the James Town Mantse, with the stool name, Oblempong Nii Kojo Ababio V.Having qualified as a Dental Surgeon, he returned home in 1949 and joined the Gold Coast Medical Service.  Together with three other dentists, they became the pioneer dental surgeons in Ghana. Nii established many dental centres across the country.

As a traditional ruler, he has been a member of the National House of Chiefs and was a founding member of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs. He represents the Greater Accra House on the Lands Commission and is the Chairman of its Research Committee.

As a traditional ruler, Oblempong Nii Kojo Ababio V has served in various capacities. He was a member of the Greater Accra House of Chiefs for many years.  He became a member of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs when it ceded from the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs.

As a member of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs, he represented the House at the Lands Commission.   A position he has held up to date.  He is currently the Senior Advisor of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs which he is a founding member.
