The Huawei Group has finally handed over a 6-building fully equipped JB Danquah Memorial ICT centre and Library which will serve as a hub for the acquisition of knowledge in ICT so as to bridge the digital divide.
The facility which was officially commissioned by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo at Kyebi in the Eastern Region, has fully equipped ICT centre with 30 modern computers, high definition projectors for teaching assistants, a server room and a central control room.
According to Huawei Ghana Representative, Mr.Tommy Zhouwei the JB Danquah Memorial ICT centre was completed at a cost of over 2.2 million Ghana CEDI’s making it Huawei’s highest CSI investment in Ghana so far.
He noted that Huawei is supporting Ghana with the project as part of their efforts in helping meaningfully, the lives of people in the Country.
Mr. Zhouwei also averred that the company as part of its Corporate Social goal is bridging the digital divide in Ghana and especially in communities they operate.
He believes that the facility will go a long way to help both students and the general public in sharpening their skills in Information Technology.
He said “ICT is the way to go,” and that Huawei is ready to support government in ensuring that its agenda of creating a technology hub becomes a reality.
The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo who commissioned the facility described the late JB Danquah as one of the most extraordinary people Ghana has ever produced, “rich in output and significance and a freedom fighter among others”.
He said JB Danquah’s memory will continue to live for as long as the nation Ghana lives and that he fought a good fight for Ghana to be established as a Free State and insisted on Democratic governance as the best for the country.
According to the President, even though JB Danquah did not hold any executive position during his life, his influence on the History of Ghana has been astonishing considering the influence he exerted in the development of the Ghana COCOBOD, University of Ghana, the Bank of Ghana, Accra Sports Stadium and other relevant institutions in the country.
Nana Akufo-Addo said JB Danquah memorial centre will not serve children alone but adults as well to have a better insight into the lives of JB Danquah since there is still a lot to learn about him.
“Anyone who will use the centre will be inspired on by the life of JB Danquah, saying that the facilities at the centre will help the Kyebi community leap into the digital world”.
He thanked the Chinese government as well as Huawei for the exceptional gesture and believes that the facility will be utilised for the purpose for which it has been established.
