In a renewed effort to combat environmental degradation and promote sustainability, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), in collaboration with Hon. Eric Edem Agbana, the MP for Ketu North, has launched a major tree-planting initiative and plastic waste awareness campaign.
The event, held at Wovenu Senior High School at Tadzewu in the Ketu North of the Volta Region, marked the start of several activities aimed at environmental restoration and youth engagement.
Speaking at the event, the CEO of the EPA, Professor Nana Ama Klutse emphasized the critical role of young people in safeguarding the environment.
“The environment is our life. The air we breathe, the water we drink, and the food we eat come from the environment. If we pollute it, we destroy ourselves,” she said.
She called on students to engage in proper waste segregation, especially of plastics, which are not biodegradable and have long-term harmful effects.
The EPA chief also revealed plans to expand partnerships with recycling companies and use collected plastics for innovative construction materials like blocks, roofing sheets, and even roads.
MP Agbana praised the initiative and reaffirmed his commitment to making Ketu North a model district in environmental management. “We believe in action. We’re not just planting trees—we’re planting opportunities,” he declared.
Both dignitaries planted trees in both Wovenu Senior High School and Dzodze Penyi Senior High School.
