The Korle-bu Teaching hospital Senior Staff Association (KOSSA) has kicked against calls by the Concerned Action Movement, on the President to reconstitute the hospital board, describing the call as a deliberate attempt to coerce and stampede government into taking hasty decisions that will not help at the end.
A group calling itself the Concerned Action Movement had on February 1, 2018 written to the President, Nana Akufo-Addo demanding the reconstitution of the Korle -bu Teaching Hospital Board.
However, KOSSA in a reaction to this demand, indicated in a press statement that, the current CEO of the hospital, Dr Felix Anyah has the ability to bring transformation into the hospital and that KOSSA as a body has confidence in the current leadership which has done marvelously well to see the somehow crippling hospital stand on its feed after years of wanton mismanagement and that though there is the need for the reconstitution of the Board, the timing is not right considering the excellent work being done by the CEO and his management team.
The statement signed by KOSSA executives pointed out that the achievements by the Board and the Acting CEO, Dr Felix Anyah have spoken well of the plans the board has for the hospital and tat it would be a misplaced priority to dissolve the board and constitute another.
“Notable amongst these are resuscitation of the oxygen plant which is saving the hospital thousands of Cedis, the ICT and telephone system in sensitive areas, donation of food van, motorbikes for security patrols in the hospital, two cars for staff award to elicit the best performance and attitudes from staff and the peaceful staff/ management relationship just to mention a few,” they stated.”
KOSSA also maintained that in as much as many people are of the view that Korle-bu should have a board by now, it is optimistic that government will bring capable and credible persons who will help transform the hospital for the better.
“Even though, many are the views that Korle-Bu should have had a Board in place b y now, we are optimistic that, government is considering giving us capable and credible individuals with the requisite experience to team up with the CEO to improve the fortunes of the hospital.”
The Association also pointed out that the incidence of the reselling of the hospital’s DNA machine happened 3 years ago under the previous administration and under the former CEO, Dr Gilbert Buckle and that the current board cannot be blamed for that.
They said, “these were some of the issues KOSSA was speaking against that brought it into collusion with the then administration.”
However, KOSSA averred that structures are being put unlace to ensure clinical and investigative services in the near future to address all pertinent issues including the DNA machine replacement.
