Former Member of Parliament for Dormaa East, Paul Twum Barimah, has called on the Tertiary Students Confederacy of the New Patriotic Party (TESCON) to intensify efforts at mobilising young voters in support of the party’s 2028 electoral agenda, with a strong focus on positioning its flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia for victory.
The call was made when the former lawmaker received a delegation of TESCON presidents from the University of Ghana, Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration, and African University College of Communications, led by the Greater Accra Regional TESCON Coordinator, at his office in Accra.
The meeting, though brief, formed part of broader efforts to regroup and strengthen the New Patriotic Party following recent political developments, as the party begins early preparations toward the 2028 general elections.
Addressing the student leaders, Twum-Barimah Esq. underscored the critical role TESCON has historically played in the NPP’s electoral successes, describing the student wing as the “intellectual and mobilisation backbone” of the party. He urged them to take proactive steps in engaging students across tertiary institutions, stressing the need to design innovative programmes that resonate with the youth.
He further encouraged the group to make the party more attractive to the next generation by promoting policies, values and narratives that align with the aspirations of young Ghanaians. According to him, sustained grassroots engagement on campuses will be key to consolidating support for the party and its future flagbearer.
Mr Twum-Barimah also assured the TESCON leadership of his unwavering support for their activities, pledging to remain accessible and committed to initiatives that strengthen the student front of the party.
During the visit, the delegation presented him with a citation in recognition of his contributions to the party and extended congratulations on his recent call to the Ghana Bar. The former MP expressed gratitude for the gesture, describing it as both humbling and motivating.
The interaction, he noted, reaffirmed his confidence in the capacity of young party members to drive the NPP’s forward-looking agenda. He commended the TESCON leaders for their energy, commitment and vision, adding that their dedication will be instrumental in shaping the party’s future.
