The Kyidomhen of Gomoa Akropong, Nana Asiedu Paintsil I have called for the re-vitalization of the country’s cultural practices and norms to help promote tourism.
Speaking at this year’s Akwambo Festival of the Chiefs and people of the town on the theme ”Community Development through Festival and Culture, Nana Asiedu Paintsil said Africans have a unique cultural heritage that identifies them as a unique people, stressing that these cultural practices and norms needs to be re-vitalized to help protect and project their identity as Africans.
He however expressed regret how Africa’s new generation are gradually losing their identity by sacrificing their culture at the altar of the adoption of foreign culture through influence.
According to him, the wearing of kente, smock and other war-like dresses during festivals, the drumming, adancing and other during such occasions tells the story of the African identity.
He has therefore called on the Government through the Ghana Tourism Board, the Traditional Rulers and the Ghana Education Service to begin to teach the younger generation the essence of the various cultures celebrated in the country.
