Mike Aggrey Unveils Transformative Vision for Ghana Olympic Committee Presidency

Former Ghana Golf Association President pledges athlete-first agenda, transparent leadership, and medal-winning focus

Seasoned sports administrator, former athlete, and former President of the Ghana Golf Association, Mr. Mike Aggrey, has officially announced his bid for the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) presidency, outlining a bold vision centered on athlete welfare, transparent governance, and Olympic success.

“I have walked the path of the Ghanaian athlete. I understand their struggles, and I know what it takes to elevate them to the highest level,” Mr. Aggrey said.

With decades of experience in both local and international sports administration, Mr. Aggrey says his candidacy represents a new era for the GOC—one that prioritizes athletes, embraces integrity, and positions Ghana for consistent podium finishes on the global stage.

Athletes First: Building a Foundation for Success

At the core of Aggrey’s campaign is an athlete-first approach. He promises to provide world-class training, coaching, medical support, and financial assistance to all athletes across Olympic disciplines.

“Our sportsmen and women must be backed by fair opportunities and transparent leadership that always puts their interests first,” he emphasized.

He also highlighted the need for long-term athlete development systems, ensuring that Ghanaian athletes are well-equipped for sustained success.

Integrity, Governance, and Inclusivity

If elected, Mr. Aggrey pledges to introduce reforms that will foster accountability, transparency, and inclusivity within the GOC.

“I will lead with integrity, ensuring that resources are managed transparently and that stakeholders are actively engaged in decision-making,” he said. “The GOC must work for all—athletes, coaches, federations, and the wider sporting community.”

Capitalizing on Ghana’s Strengths in Olympic Sports

Ghana has shown increasing potential in selected Olympic events over the last three Games. Aggrey’s plan includes identifying and investing in these areas of competitive advantage.

> “Our focus will be on strengthening these areas to transform them into gold-medal-winning events while ensuring that all Olympic sports have the opportunity to thrive,” he stated.

He also emphasized the need for data-driven planning and performance tracking to guide investment decisions across all disciplines.

Strategic Partnerships and Sustainable Funding

Recognizing the financial constraints that have historically limited Ghana’s sports development, Mr. Aggrey intends to secure global partnerships and sustainable funding streams.

“We will ensure that no Ghanaian athlete is ever held back by lack of funding. We will build the right partnerships to support them all the way to the podium.”

Championing Youth and Gender Equality in Sports

Beyond medals, Aggrey views sports as a tool for national transformation. His vision includes strong youth programs and gender-inclusive policies.

“Sports have the power to transform lives, inspire a nation, and create opportunities for youth development and gender equality,” he said. “I am deeply committed to increasing female participation in sports at all levels—from grassroots to leadership.”

A New Era for the Ghana Olympic Committee

With a proven record as the former President of the Ghana Golf Association and a career committed to uplifting sports in Ghana, Mr. Mike Aggrey believes he is the right leader to take the GOC into a brighter future.

“With my experience, passion, and unwavering commitment, I am ready to lead the Ghana Olympic Committee into a new era—one defined by excellence, opportunity, and national pride,” he concluded. “Together, let us build a stronger, more competitive, and more united Ghana through sports.”
