MTN, a leading telecommunication company in Ghana, has made donations to the Mamfe Akuapem Traditional Council in support of the upcoming ‘Ohum’ festival.
The company presented a cheque of GH¢5,000, airtime worth GH¢500, drink hampers and assorted souvenirs during a short ceremony at Mamfe Akuapim on Friday.
Donating on behalf of the company, Mr. Stephen Asare, MTN Area Sales Manager for Eastern, Volta and Oti regions said their support to the Traditional festivals is part of their bid to delight and enhance the celebration of culture and heritage and helped to attract more patrons from far and near to join.
He said that MTN was delighted to join the people of Manfe Akwapim to celebrate the 2020 Manfe Ohum festival as they sought to strengthen the relationship that existed between MTN and the Traditional Authority.
The Chief of Manfe Akuapim, Osabarima Ansah Saskraku III, receiving the items, commended MTN for the kind gesture and the support given to all cultural events in the country.
Mr. Stephen Asare, therefore, called on Ghanaians to use the Company’s new app, MTN Heritage App to showcase the country’s beautiful culture to the world.
The MTN Heritage App is a knowledge gathering application by MTN for sharing and showcasing information on Ghana and its culture.
Mr. Stephen Asare noted that the country has been endowed with rich culture, usually displayed during the celebration of traditional festivals and they need to be showcased.
He has therefore invited the general public especially the youth to share short videos and pictures of traditional drumming and dancing and other cultural performances during festival celebrations and other material cultural heritage of Ghana via the app as a way of promotion and preservation.
“We encourage you all to download the Heritage App and share your culture with the rest of the world”, he stressed.
