MTN Ghana constructs a magnificent maternity block for Tema General Hospital

 

 

As part of its efforts of ensuring that Ghanaians attain quality healthcare, MTN Ghana Foundation has taken another giant step by constructing a 40 bed capacity maternity block for Tema General Hospital.

The magnificent edifice contains a 20-bed facility, first stage ward, a lying-in ward, one theater, 7 bed monitoring/recovery ward, nurses’ station and changing rooms, sluice rooms, pantry and a store, two consulting rooms, two doctors’ office/restrooms, nurses’ office, nurses’ restroom, kitchen, restrooms and a reception.

The Manager, Sustainability & Impact, MTN Mrs. Rhoderlyn Entsua-Mensah, visited the hospital with a team from MTN Foundation to assess the progress of the project.

Briefing the media on the project she indicated that MTN Foundation decided to embark on this benevolent exercise after they came across news publication pointing out that the Hospital was in a dire need of a maternity block.

According to her, the project, which attracted over 4 million Ghana Cedis, begun in November 2016, and is expected to be completed and handed over to the hospital for use in September this year.

Adding, that Foundation will also equip the maternity block with needed equipment in order to make the hospital a full fledge one in the country to and also deliver to expectation.

The Project Architect at Multicad Consulting Architects Mr. Nathan Ansah, disclosed that, project is 98% complete; adding that it is in a good state to serve the growing health needs of the women who visit the hospital annually for deliveries.

The Medical Director of Tema General Hospital Dr. Kwabena Opoku Adusei, commended Ghana’s leading communications service provider MTN Ghana, for responding to their golden voice.

This he said, the project will go a long way to alleviate the pressure on existing facilities at the hospital, as a result of the increasing population.

According to him, in the past some patients were even sharing the beds together.

This he noted that with the new project, maternal mortality issues would reduce drastically.
