Nkwanta South MCE Courts Support from Ambassador Salamu Amadu for Sports Development

Accra, Ghana – June 20, 2025
In a strategic move to attract investment and youth development support for his municipality, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Nkwanta South, Honourable Joseph Awal Antwi, has paid a courtesy visit to Ambassador Alhaji Salamu Amadu in Accra.

The meeting centered on efforts to uplift youth in the Oti Region through infrastructure development—particularly the creation of a modern sports complex to help nurture local talent and promote social engagement.

“Let’s Build Something for the Youth”

During the meeting, Hon. Antwi made a passionate appeal to Ambassador Salamu Amadu, urging him to consider supporting the construction of a multi-purpose sports facility in the municipality. He described the project as a vital tool to combat youth unemployment, promote discipline, and harness the sporting potential of young people in the area.

“As a youth myself, and someone who has seen what sports can do for communities, I strongly believe this is the time to invest in a facility that can transform lives,” he said. “Nkwanta South can boast of talented players like Vincent Atinga and Emmanuel Keyekeh, who have made names in professional football. But we lack the basic infrastructure to produce more of such talents.”

He noted that with the right environment and mentorship, more stars could emerge—not just in football but in athletics, volleyball, and other sports disciplines.

Ambassador Salamu Amadu Commends Mahama for Youth-Centered Leadership

Ambassador Alhaji Salamu Amadu, who has long championed youth empowerment and social development, warmly welcomed the MCE and praised his proactive approach.

He took the opportunity to commend former President John Dramani Mahama for appointing Hon. Antwi, describing it as a reflection of Mahama’s consistent belief in the abilities of young leaders.

“As a Youth Ambassador, I want to express sincere gratitude to His Excellency John Dramani Mahama for trusting you with this important role,” Ambassador Salamu said. “It’s refreshing to see a young MCE so committed to driving change in his community.”

Salamu Amadu expressed interest in the proposal and promised to review it once formally presented, especially if the project demonstrated long-term value for the people of Nkwanta South.

A Vision for the Future

The two leaders agreed that the youth must be at the center of Ghana’s development agenda, and both emphasized the importance of public-private partnerships to bring meaningful change to underserved communities.

Hon. Antwi noted that the sports complex would be more than just a facility—it would serve as a hub for talent development, community engagement, and economic activity.

“Beyond nurturing footballers and athletes, the project will create jobs and opportunities for coaches, vendors, trainers, and others,” he added. “It’s a smart investment in the future of our people.”

Ambassador Salamu Amadu, in response, encouraged the MCE to put forward a detailed proposal outlining the vision, design, and community impact of the project. He affirmed his belief in development led by purpose, stating that his support always goes to initiatives that empower people from the ground up.

Action Ahead

The meeting ended on a positive note, with both parties expressing enthusiasm about the possibilities ahead. Hon. Joseph Awal Antwi reiterated his commitment to building a stronger, more vibrant Nkwanta South through collaborative leadership and bold action.

“This visit is only the beginning,” he said. “We are building relationships with people who believe in Ghana’s youth and understand that real development happens when opportunities meet preparation.”

A proposal is expected to be submitted in the coming weeks to formally kickstart the engagement process and attract further support.
