NPP vets late MP’s wife, Kufuor’s son, 4 others for Ayawaso West Wuogon seat

The New Patriotic Party has vetted six prospective Member of Parliament aspirants for the vacant Ayawaso West Wuogon seat.

The six include Lydia Alhassan, one of the wives of the late MP Emmanuel Kyeremateng Agyarko as well Rev Edward Agyekum Kufuor, son of Ghana’s ex-president John Kufuor.

This was confirmed to Joy News by the General Secretary of the party John Boadu.

The six are seeking to retain the seat for the ruling party in a by-election slated for January 31, 2019.

The seat became vacant after the incumbent MP Emmanuel Kyerementeng Agyarko passed away on November 22 after a short illness.

Kumbungu MP Ras Mubarak had appealed to his party, the NDC not to put up a candidate but the leadership appears to have shot down the suggestion.

The NDC like the NPP is preparing for its primaries ahead of the January 31 date.

John Boadu says his party’s National Executive Council met to discuss the rules and regulations that will guide the upcoming primaries, adding the party will soon organize the conference to elect one of the six vetted aspirants.
