The Headmaster of Akyem Oda Senior High School, Mr. Eric Amoah, has made an appeal to the government, philanthropists, institutions, and stakeholders for support in providing classroom and dining hall furniture to enhance teaching and learning.
Speaking at the school’s 65th Anniversary celebration, he noted the school is admitting increasing numbers of students through government placements and other admissions, which has put pressure on boarding facilities.
840 students completed studies this year; incoming class is 1,440 – a rise of nearly 600 students.
Growth has strained accommodation and bedding facilities. Bedding stock is insufficient; classrooms lack adequate furniture (desks/chairs); an empty library structure needs refurbishment into a modern complex for knowledge and research.
The School roads need improvement as the institution aims for Category A status.
Mr. Amoah stressed addressing these issues is vital for student comfort, welfare, and academics, urging support from government and stakeholders.
His Royal Majesty Oseadeyo Dr. Frimpong Manso IV commented that today’s teachers and students are creative, urging them to explore job creation in agriculture.
He noted Ghana’s fertile land and weather support agriculture, suggesting focus on this sector for job creation.
He urged students to orient their studies towards self-employment.
Regarding mining, His Royal Majesty urged government to engage traditional authorities in addressing illegal mining rather than criminalizing the industry, highlighting Ghana’s natural resources (“Gold Coast”).
