
The final funeral rites of Obaapanyin Agnes Wiafoah, affectionately called Maadwoa, took place on Saturday, February 15, at the forecourt of the State House in Accra. Her son, Mr. Paul Oscar Ankoma, widely known as Oscarpak and the Patron of the Ghana Used Clothing Dealers Association, led family, friends, and well-wishers in bidding her a solemn farewell.
As early as 8:00 a.m., the embalming room was opened for public viewing, allowing mourners to pay their last respects. The atmosphere was filled with emotions as the clergy, children, grandchildren, family friends, and sympathizers took turns to honour her memory. The Ghana Immigration Service Band set the tone for the day with solemn music, creating a reflective ambience.
The service drew thousands from all walks of life, including notable figures such as the GA Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, former Member of Parliament for Kasoa, Hon. Hawa Mavis Koomson, and Member of Parliament for Assin South, Hon. John Ntim Fordjour. Also in attendance were the President of the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA), Dr Joseph Obeng, Dr Kwame Osei Despite, gospel musician Cece Twum, Diana Asamoah, traditional rulers, East Legon Executive Fitness Club Members, Kantamanto traders, and heads of various churches.
Amid the grief, there were moments of celebration as mourners, dressed in mourning attire, joined in spirit-lifting praise songs, with many dancing to the vibrant tunes. The service was further enriched by choral performances that provided comfort to the grieving crowd. Moving tributes flowed from her children, grandchildren, family representatives, and the Church of Pentecost, Ashongman-Estate, highlighting the remarkable life and legacy of the late Obaapanyin Agnes Wiafoah.
