People Of Nkansannando Bare Teeth At Gov’t Over Lack Of Road, Electricity

The people of Agona Nkansannando, a farming community in the Asikuma Odoben Brakwa District of the Central Region have bared teeth against the country’s political leaders for what they describe as total neglect by successive governments.

Led by the Chief of the area Nana Kwesi Danful III and Opanyin Kwaw Assan and Opanyin Kojo Badu, both opinion leaders, the people have vowed not to entertain any politician or political party in their community anymore, as according to them, these politicians only come to them and canvass for votes during electioneering period and dump them after winning power.

Their cry is that they community has no access road linking it to the other communities and therefore they have to trek long distances of about 9km by foot to Nankese, a nearby community before they can pick a car to Odoben or Asikuma.

According to them, what breaks their back is that during bumper harvest, they have to carry their food stuffs, including bags of cocoa which is the man crop for hours to be able to pick a car to the market.

According to them, the youth, led by the 2015|2016 Central Regional Best Farmer, Kwesi Kwagya who is a native of the community decided to embark on a communal labour to construct about a 4km stretch of road, and also make a make shift bridge over a stream to enable vehicles come to the community to transport their goods during harvest.

According to the people, another worry confronting them is lack of electricity, and as a result, they have to walk for hours to Nankese just to charge their mobile phones.

Comprising three villages, (Kwabbam, Kobina Munko and Addison) with a population of about two thousand inhabitants, the community has no school, leaving the youth with no formal education, and therefore resorting to farming as their only source of employment.

The Chief, Nana Danful who briefed the media on their plight said they have made several pleas to the Asikuma Odoben Brakwa District Assembly, but all to no avail.

He said the only support they got from the Assembly was the provision of an excavator by the then District Chief Executive, Mrs. Georgina Nkrumah Aboah which the people had to fuel themselves to clear the road that they have already constructed.

It is against this and other concerns that the people have vowed never to allow any politician or political party to come to the Nkansanndo community to campaign again, until their concerns are addressed.

Some angry youth of the community who later spoke to the media said any politician or political party who would want to campaign in the community could come by air.
