President Akufo-Addo has reiterated his commitment to address the recent armed robbery cases that have bedeviled the country.
He described the situation as totally unacceptable saying that no miscreant will have the space to terrorize citizens and generate a sense of insecurity in the country.
This was contained in a speech red at the 61th independence anniversary match at Ajumako Enyan Essiam District by the District Chief Executive Rev. Ransford Kwesi Nyarko on behalf of the president.
The president indicated that he will work to ensure that citizens are able to go about their daily duties in the confidence that they are safe.
President Akufo-Addo said government will provide the means for the police to modernise their equipment and learn modern methods of policing, adding that their numbers will be rapidly increased to match the growing population and the sophistication and audacity of criminals.
Rev. Nyarko making a personal commitment on the development of the district expressed his disappointment at the attitude of some teachers who absent themselves from school, indulge in alcoholism and have amorous relationships with student.
He reminded such teachers of punitive measures awaiting them if caught.
He advised the audience to make the development of the Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam District a priority by making a firm decision to contribute their quota.
Rev. Nyarko used the occasion to present bursaries of Ghc 300.00 to each of the 8 BECE candidates who excelled with single digits, and announced the assemblies resolve to support such students with nine hundred Ghana Cedis each every year.
Rev Nyarko inspired the pupils within the district charging them to seize the platform provided them by education as a means to achieve their aspirations in life.
He advised them not to waste their time to viewing telenovelas and wasting time on watching television but rather a period of absolute concentration on their studies.
He used the occasion to award some teachers as well who performed creditably.
The y received items like table top fridges, Gas cylinders and burners and Microwaves.
The District Director of Education Mr Kwesi Incoom noted that educational performance in the district has not been too encouraging, attributing it to varied situations and challenges.
According to him total parental involvement in matters affecting their wards ‘educations, especially provision of basic physiological and psychological needs were critical.
Additionally, teachers absenteeism in some areas of the district, few cases of teacher abuse of children’s labour, sexual misconduct, and cases of inadequate teacher preparations are some of the contributing factors.
Mr Incoom however expressed appreciation to the assembly for revamping the ‘Best Teacher Awards’ Scheme which has been dormant since 2004, with the latest one taking place on 6th March as a novelty.
He called on the people to to be energized by the blood shed by forefathers to do more exploits in their communities.
